After a long break the Argentina Soccer blog is back and running!

Today we are going to go through our top ten Argentina soccer stars that make up the history of one of the world’s most popular nations.

1 – Diego Armando Maradona – It is often said that this little genius was the best ever and I would have to agree. He will be always be remembered for the hand of god but should also get credit for winning Serie A twice with Napoli as well as the Coppa Italia and the Uefa Cup. The only players that would compete for the best ever were the brazilian soccer players, Ronaldo and the legend Pele.

2 – Alfredo Di Stefano – This Argentine legend scored an unbelievable 374 goals in 521 games, including 216 for Real Madrid! Di Stefano only played 6 times for Argentina (scoring 6 goals) but is still considered one of the greatest players in Argentina Soccer History.

3 – Gabriel Batistuta – Batigol was a classic centre forward and the all time top scorer for Argentina with 56 goals in 78 games! The Fiorentina hero may of finished his career in the middle east but he will always be remembered as one of the legend soccer players of the nineties.

4 – Mario Kempes - Super Mario will be a hero at Valencia as well as being remembered as the star of the 78′ world cup scoring 6 goals in the tournament including 2 in the final.

5 – Juan Roman Riquelme – Riquelme splits opinions between fans all around the world but as far as we are concerned he is was one of the finest players over the last ten years. He experienced a difficult unwanted spell at Barcelona but apart from that was very successful at Villareal (getting the team to the champions league semi final) as well as his much loved Boca Juniors.

6 – Lionel Messi - Voted Argentina Soccer Player of 2009 and also known as the modern day Maradona, we all hope that Maradona can get the best out of him eventually! Messi is yet to show his Barcelona form for the national team but it is highly hoped that he will in South Africa in 2010!

7 – Daniel Passarella – El Gran Capitan was the captain of the 78′ world cup winning team. He scored a sensational 90 goals in 226 games for River Plate and is now the president of the club.

8 – Javier Zanetti - Simply a legend and still going strong playing for Inter Milan. Zanetti is one of the finest right backs of all time but is also happy playing at left back, defensive midfield or centre back!

9 – Fernando Redondo – One of the finest Argentina Soccer Team Players of all time. Redondo experienced many fine years playing at Real Madrid and even has a position on the pitch named after him! The elegance and intelligence of his play has made him a must have for this top 10.

10 – Diego Simeone – As far as England fans are concerned one of the most famous soccer players from Argentina. Simeone played for the Argentine national team on over 100 occasions. He is now managing San Lorenzo and is highly tipped to one day take over the reigns of the Argentine national team.
