The Genius of Lionel Messi.
Filed Under Argentina Soccer News, National Team |
Watch Argentina play and your eye is naturally drawn to Lionel Messi nicknamed El Pulga or “The Flea” the way the youngster flickers around the pitch, creating and scheming it’s easy to see where his nickname comes from.
The attacker possesses some of the finest skills in world football, always chooses the right pass - check, close ball control – check, vision and balance – check, amazing dribbling skills & ability to change direction at the drop of a hat – check. Already at the age of 21 the Argentina Soccer phenomenon is the national team’s most important player and is the closest thing Les Albicelestes have had to Maradona since the great man himself retired.
“The new Maradona” is a term that has been used dozens of times but this time it looks like it could well be true with Maradona himself proclaiming Messi to be his successor. “I have seen the player who will inherit my place in Argentine football and his name is Messi,” before later adding “He’s a leader and is offering lessons in beautiful football. He has something different to any other player in the world,”
High praise indeed and this was given to him whilst he was still in his teens!
Unlike many of today’s “world class talent” Messi is a true world class star through performance on the pitch and not self promotion off it. The game does appear to be at times too easy for him and that is the joy of watching a real talent at work.
One things for sure he’ll be needed tomorrow night for an Argentina Soccer side looking to end a disastrous three match losing streak against arch rivals Brazil. Whatever happens win, lose or draw you know that he’ll be involved some how!
